“I like to create clothes that become collectibles… it solidifies my path.” — Cesar Galindo

The designer, who speaks to being raised in a house with his five sisters and mum (there were 11 children), took his design ethos from the different forms that were part of his collective unconsciousness. “I create clothes for a woman’s lifestyle,” he shares with AW at Sunday’s MoDA Market where his designs which were revealed Friday evening, left his name firmly etched in the mind of every woman in attendance — naturally there was a beeline to his rack.

It might have been Galindo’s first visit to Jamaica — he’s Mexican, was raised in Texas and is now resident in New York — but his fashion sensibilities (prints, colour and clothes) that checked each social event spoke to a studied designer.

Galindo’s collection is as haute as it is easy and wearable. From viscose foiled on top of silk to cottons purchased in London and transformed with applique, there’s something, as incredible as it might sound, for everyone.

“The biggest compliment to me is when a woman buys a piece and still wears it 10 years later…” Indeed, his clothes are versatile enough; he cites the example of a client who wore one of his designs (a caftan) from her yacht to the beach and a gala.

“Women want clothes that are easy, comfy and travel well.”

No disputing that, Cesar.

Sultry & Jolly

Resort wear designer Jae Jolly might have taken inspiration from Morocco for this collection which will be available at GoldenEye come January 2016; but these designs would turn heads at any luxe resort where belles style in chic turbans, gold chunky chokers and ankle cuffs. Getting splashed? Perhaps! Noticed? There’ll be lots to notice; in Jolly’s prints and solids, geometric darts, knots used strategically to make waistlines smaller, tummies flatter and straps to take the attention from the bottom to the top or vice versa.

One thing is certain the collection is flawless.
