MANDEVILLE, Manchester – More than 950 students from high schools across Jamaica were embraced by Northern Caribbean University (NCU) at its recent Open Day, a news release from the university said.

The bi-annual event is aimed at showcasing what was described as “the region’s leading liberal arts private tertiary institution” to prospective students on its main campus in Mandeville.

The high school students, along with their teachers and guidance counsellors, gathered at the university’s gymnatorium to sample the NCU experience under the theme, ‘Discover Your Destiny; NCU Can Help’.

The event, co-ordinated by the Office of Admissions and Recruitment, displayed the institution’s academic programmes and offered information on how to finance education at NCU.

A culture – fest concert, video, musical and other presentations displayed academic, spiritual and social sides of the Seventh-day Adventist institution. Guests also had the opportunity to enjoy spa treatments, tours of the campus and booth displays.

“The students were impressed by our efforts. We were happy to have them on our campus and we hope many of them will make NCU the place to further their academic pursuits,” said Phillip Williams, director of Admissions and Recruitment at NCU and one of the key organisers.

Shanice Morrison, a sixth-form student at Clarendon College, said that she’s interested in pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication.

“I was happy for the opportunity to see some of the equipment used in a television studio because I’m a practical person and it is my dream to work in television. I will definitely apply to NCU,” said Morrison.

Roneisha Pusey a sixth form student from Central High School said the presentations were excellent.

“I loved the enthusiasm that was displayed as well as the clean environment. My brother is already a student here at NCU and with the level of involvement that I’m seeing, I’ll ensure that I join him here,” she said.
