Digicel Play partners with Kidoodle.TV
Digicel Play has inked a deal with A Parent Media Co Inc. (APMC), owner of children’s over-the-top (OTT) entertainment service, Kidoodle.TV increasing the contents of the Group’s newest entertainment experience.
The company, which is currently in expansion mode, has secured the child-friendly subscription video-on-demand service for its markets in the Caribbean which will become available for viewing over the next few months.
Just last week, Digicel announced the acquisition of controlling interest in business-to-business conglomerate Prism Holdings, part owner of loyalty rewards company, Magna Rewards.
Digicel’s Play package includes fibre, fixed lines and internet services.
In a release to the public, Digicel stated that in addition to the variety of media choices made available through Kidoodle.TV, APMC and Digicel Play will be working together to source and deliver premium content with strong educational and immersive components.
“This innovative integration of such an advanced app into our ecosystem is an exciting next step in enabling our customers to access opportunities for positive growth and quality entertainment through our connected services,” Digicel Play CEO for the Caribbean and Central America John Suranyi stated.
“We are also excited to provide parents with the tools to protect their kids’ media experience while incentivising them to engage in education-based consumption and healthy viewing boundaries. Kidoodle.TV provides an exceptional offering.”
According to Suranyi, Kidoodle.TV features robust parental controls, brightly coloured, easy-to-use interface, customisable library of content, and its newest addition Family Moments – the world’s first kids’ subscription video-on-demand platform that allows consumers to upload and watch family videos and home movies alongside popular children’s programmes.
The deal, however, signals APMC’s first move into global infrastructure expansion.
“We are very excited to be working with Digicel. It’s a world-class communications and entertainment provider pioneering a unique brand of social development in response to demand for home-based entertainment and learning. We believe that the Kidoodle.TV platform and its disruptive technology will enable Digicel to provide children and families in the region with the modern, immersive, connected experience they want,” APMC president and Kidoodle.TV founder, Michael Lowe, said.
Suranyi previously told the
Jamaica Observer that as Digicel Play seeks to increase its share of the market, plans are underway for expansion into new product offerings including cable channels that are not yet licensed in the Caribbean. Currently, 150,000 Jamaican homes in Kingston and Portmore can access the service.
Digicel Group is a communications and entertainment provider with operations in 33 markets in the Caribbean, Central America and Asia Pacific. After more than 14 years of operation, total investment to date stands at over US$5 billion worldwide, including US$100 million for the deployment of Digicel Play fibre infrastructure.
