C’down, Holmwood top Senior League
Camperdown Camperdown High and Gaynstead High and captured the Juniors and Seniors Leagues, respectively, as the curtains came down on the 2015 ISSA Urban High Schoolgirls Netball Competition at the Leila Robinson Courts at the Indpendence Park Sports Complex on Tuesday.
Both Gaynstead and Camperdown have created history for their schools by winning the titles for the first time since participating in competitions over the years.
In the Senior League, Camperdown stopped the challenge of former many-time champions St Hugh’s High 45-41 in extra time after they had played to 34-34 at full time. It was a match filled with brilliant shootings, defending and quick combinations by both teams.
Gaynstead defeated The Queen’s School in an exciting encounter 25-21 to end the latter’s consecutive three-year reign. Queen’s were also the defending All-Island Junior champions.
In rural finals, defending champions Denbigh High and Holmwood Technical retained their titles by convincingly defeating Knox College and Titchfield High in the Junior and Senior League, respectively, also at the Leila Robinson Courts.
Denbigh defeated Knox College 28-22 for their third consecutive lien on the Junior League title, while Holmwood brushed away first-time finalists Titchfield 49-25 in the Senior League final that they have won 10 times in the last 11 years.
