Jockey Rory Brown
AFTER six years out of competitive race riding, veteran jockey, Rory Brown, is determined to make a comeback in the ‘irons’.
“My plan at the moment is to get back into racing. Here at Caymanas Park there are a lot of young riders who need some kind of guidance and assistance, plus the game of horse racing seems to be on a rise,” the 55-year-old Brown told the
Complete Racing Guide.
Brown knows very well that a comeback to competitive race riding, will come only with hard work.
“The sport looks like it is moving forward and so I decided to put out some more dedication and determination as I want the younger ones to know who Rory Brown is, what Rory Brown is like and the pattern of Rory Brown’s riding style,” he said.
“In my days, during the 1970s and 1980s, I rode against some great jockeys, like Joe Mercer from England, George HoSang, Charles Hussey, Richard DePass, Emilio Rodriquez, and few others. Those days were the best competitive days riding at the park. I will be back in the saddle hopefully next month,” he further said.
Brown informed that his career was cut short due to weight problems.
“The last time I rode at Caymanas Park was in the year 2009. On that day I won aboard a horse by the name of
Milestone. I have been out of the saddle from that time due to weight problems, and at that time it was very difficult to renew my jockey’s licence. I feel ready in myself now and I also feel that the time is right,” Brown declared.
“I am always around the game as the sport of horse racing is like my life. When I am not riding in competitive races, I am always exercising horses and moving around trainers and jockeys and stuff like that. Riding horses is the only thing I know,” he ended.
