Billion dollar appeal dismissed
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Court of Appeal has refused the appeal of a St Catherine woman whose US$1.3 million had been seized by the state-run Asset Recovery Agency.
The ruling against Deloris Miller comes a year and a half after the appellate court reserved judgement in the matter.
The money was found in a freezer at Miller’s house in Portmore during a police raid at the premises in 2007.
Following an application by the Asset Recovery Agency, the Supreme Court in 2012 ruled that the money must be forfeited under the Proceeds of Crime Act, which led to Miller’s appeal.
