#BestOfWorstOf2015 Male Media Personality

Neville Bell & Barry G/Kern Spencer

#BestOf2015 – Neville Bell

#WorstOf2015 – Barry G, Kern Spencer

Best – Neville Bell

Neville “Bertis” Bell continues to dominate the Jamaican media landscape on the male side. Bell continues to be a favourite of many Jamaicans on TVJ’s Smile Jamaica, appearing on four out of the five weekdays that the programme is aired. It is hard to imagine the morning show without his fun and ‘down to earth’ personality.

The coach of St Georges College continues to do an exceptional job co-hosting Red Stripe Premier League Football Mondays on TVJ. In addition, this year, he was also one of the hosts for TVJ’s coverage of the IAAF World Championships. Bell also hosted the draw for TVJ’s Ultimate Fan Promotion, in which the station gave away a 2016 Toyota Corolla; TVJ’s coverage of the Independence Grand Gala; the appreciation dinner for our athletes among other important and diverse events.

Bell’s unique and fun-loving personality has made him a household name in Jamaica. The way he can effectively host a formal or informal event — from a ceremony to a talk show to a high energy event– and never become boring, forced or annoying, must be lauded.

Worst – Barry G, Kern Spencer

The TEENs have spoken and to ensure there was no taking back of titles, both Barry G and Kern Spencer will share the 2015 title for Worst Male Media Personality.Following the Spencers – our very own Jamaican Kardashians  -_-.

After a year of what seemed to be an endless drought, it was torture that Jamaicans had to endure a storm as vicious and dreadful as the brainstorm. For those who don’t know, Barrington “Barry G” Gordon (the Taxi-man Governor) is a Mello FM radio host. For those who know, yes it is true, his program airs for four hours every weekday.

It is obvious why teenagers seem to be unable to gravitate towards the show. Barry G talks way too much (explains why taxi-men like him), especially about himself. In school we are told that A means pass and F means fail. Uncle Barry, you passed F and went all the way to G. The brainstorm is funny sometimes but how many times you can repeat the word in 30 seconds is not something we want to know… You always brag and boast about how you know all the answers. DUH! You made the questions, Mr genius.

There are few humorous and interesting points made on the show, however, the self-praise from the man who says he was sent to “save the radio” makes us wonder who is he saving the radio from? Is there much worse than he is? Maybe not on radio….. Maybe there is worse on television!

Former Junior Minister of Energy Kern Spencer has lit the way for family reality television in Jamaica, however, not much energy seems to be in the acting.

Just when you thought seeing less of Kern was possible after being in the news and newspapers for months, he had the bright idea to create a reality TV show about his family, dubbed

He has also launched an online blog, dubbed “Best of Jamaica TV” (BOJ TV). It is clear that he enjoys light, camera and action, however, he isn’t too gifted at the action, or should I say the acting.

So congratulations to the Boogey Man and Mr BOJ, you have made television and radio really annoying for the past year. Maybe Barry G just isn’t for our generation though, and by all reports Kern Spencer is a gifted politician with an enlightened mind – so at least he can go back to that.
