Ellis all but secures 2015 jockeys’ crown
By virtue of his four-timer, Ellis has taken his tally to 83 winners, 12 ahead of Halledeen, who is on 71. Halledeen did not ride on Saturday.
With just two race days left in the season, it is all but over for Halledeen.
Ellis opened his account in the fourth race when he steered the Donovan Plummer-trained
Hologram Shadow to victory in a high-claiming ($550,000-$500,000) event over 1,600 metres. He then followed up in the eighth race after guidingPerfect Flyer to a commanding victory for trainer Dwight Chen over 1,400 metres on a $180,000-claiming race.
Ellis was then brilliant when he won aboard
Royal Assault in a front-running effort to win the War Zone Sprint Trophy over 1,100 metres for trainer Anthony Nunes.
The cap then came in the 12th and final event with 43-1 long shot
Roman Spy, who romped home easily on a $180,000-claiming event over 1,400 metres.

Omar Walker, who rode one winner (
Legal Account), firmly controls third position on 60 winners, nine ahead of fourth-placed Paul Francis on 51.
Outgoing three-time champion Dane Nelson, who was in Canada riding for most of the season, rode two winners (
Luckybegood andMeritone) to be in joint fifth place with Shamaree Muir on 42 winners each.
Rounding off the top 10 are Aaron Chatrie (37), Jevvanne Erwin (36), Wesley Henry (35), and O’Brien White (19).
