Special Olympics Jamaica receives cash donation
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Special Olympics Jamaica (SOJ) received a US$5,000 boost after gaining plenty plaudits for outstanding displays at the 2015 World Summer Games in Los Angeles, California.
The donation was made by Betsy Hoyt Stephens, the Jamaicans’ delegation assistant liaison (DAL) at the LA Games, and her family.
She visited the island recently and got a better understanding of the Special Olympics movement in Jamaica.
Hoyt Stephens, a long-time advocate for Special Olympics International, was a guest at the Windsor School for persons with special needs in St Catherine.
Lorna Bell, the SOJ executive director and Jamaica’s head of delegation to the Summer Games, lauded the support from Hoyt Stephens.
“High praises to her and her family. This is not the only monetary contribution that she secured for us. We had sponsorship for Kadian Ingleton, one of our athletes,” Bell said.
