Campion, St Jago bag Jamaica/GraceKennedy scholarships
WITH the exception of one student from St Jago High School, Campion College snatched all of the awards made under the Jamaica/ GraceKennedy Scholarships this year.
The Ministry of Education, which made the announcment last week, said the scholarships total $3.4 million in value, covering tuition fees, book and maintenance allowances.
The awardees, who were selected from a pool of 195 candidates, are:
• Jordan Malcolm, Campion College — Jamaica Scholarship Male;
• Ava Robertson, Campion College — Jamaica Scholarship Female;
• Dainalee Hammond, St Jago High School — Jamaica Independence Open;
• Kai Bridgewater, Campion College — Jamaica Independence Male;
• Tashana Blair, Campion College — Jamaica Independence Female;
• Brittni Hickey, Campion College — Jamaica Adult Suffrage Open; and
• Mishka Williams, Campion College – Jamaica Centenary Female.
“The students were awarded based on their stellar academic performance in the recent sitting of the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency (CAPE) examinations in June 2015,” the Ministry of Education said.
It explained further that, “Each year, the Ministry of Education invites applications from students who have completed secondary level education and are sitting at least four CAPE subjects including Caribbean Studies or Communication Studies with an interest in pursuing tertiary education locally. Once the applications are received they are sent to the Caribbean Examinations Council in Barbados for a ranking based on performance.”
