WITH its line-up of major acts and billed as one of the major dancehall events for the Yuletide season, Galiday Bounce lived up to expectations at the Ewarton Sports Complex in St Catherine on Monday night.

Backed by Ruff Kutt band, Chuck Fenda was the first to ignite the venue with songs including Gash Dem, I Swear andMurderer. Picking up where Chuck Fenda left off was Turbulance, with an electrifying set. His tracks Name and Number, We Got the love and Ex-girlfriend found favour with female fans.

Veteran deejay Ninjaman needed no introduction. All it took was a pose from the ‘Don Gorgon’ and the crowd erupted as they huddled closer to the stage. During his set, he took lyrical blows at Isaiah Laing, promoter of the Boxing Day stage show, Sting.

Moments later, Ninjaman was joined on stage by his new ‘partner-in-crime’ Gully Bop. The two could do no wrong as they delivered on-the-spot lyrics. They then diverted their attention to Khago, who earlier hurled lyrical insults at Gully Bop. However, after issuing a challenge to him, Khago would not take up the offer.

The duo then invited female deejay Stylysh to the stage. She taunted the audience and deejays with her sexual overtones in lyrics and dance moves.

The baton was then passed to Macka Diamond, who was just as entertaining. Her energetic display of Hoola Hoop andCow Foot dance moves went over well. The females in the audience got wild when she performed hit singles Dye Dye and Dutty Weave.

As dawn approached, Galiday Bounce peaked with the introduction of firebrand artiste Sizzla Kalonji, who, as expected, ‘burned’ anything he deemed unrighteous. The Rastafarian artiste from August Town’s tracks included Karate, Mash Dem Dung and Get To The Point.

Self-proclaimed dancehall king, Beenie Man followed. After performing hits including Heart Attack, Clean Everyday, and Out and Clean, he was joined by his former arch-rival Bounty Killer. Their appearance drew sustained cheers and the two took their fans down memory lane with a barrage of hits.

During their set, the police officers signalled that the show’s cut-off time was near. The dancehall veterans invited Kiprich, Iyara, Iba Mahr, Quick Cook, and Innovata and gave the gathering a wicked finale.Earlier in the evening, up-and-coming acts Suga Bear, K Queens, Gala Wasp, Likkle Dainjah and Black Dice showed they were the ones to watch for 2016.— Simone Morgan
