Salt Marsh United lose points, fined for un-played Confed League game
DAVIS PEN, Trelawny — Montego Bay Boys Club were awarded points by the Competitions Committee of the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League from Sunday’s unplayed first-round game against Salt Marsh United at Davis Pen in Trelawny.
On Monday, the committee ruled that Salt Marsh United, the home team, were negligent as they had not provided the adequate security as per the rules of the competition.
Boys Club were awarded three points and three goals, while Salt Marsh were fined $5,000.
According to a release from the Western Confederation, the meeting held on Monday found that Salt Marsh United did not provide adequate security for the playing of the game.
The start of the game was held up as only two referees were at the venue for the 3:00 pm start, and at 3:25 pm when the third referee showed up, the Boys Club officials refused to play, as there was only one of the two mandatory police officers present.
With the awarding of the points, Boys Club improved to six points, but stayed in fourth place in Zone 1, while Salt Marsh fell from first to third on goal difference.
Petersfield FC, Granville FC and Salt Marsh United are all on nine points.
