Granville keep up winning roll in Super League
FROME, Westmoreland — Former champions Granville FC won their third-straight game, while promoted Petersfield FC made it two straight wins in the Jamaica Football Federation’s Charley’s JB Rum Western Confederation Super League on Sunday.
Granville beat promoted Lucea FC 2-0 in Lucea to join Petersfield and salt Marsh on nine points each in Zone One after Petersfield FC extended defending champions’ Savannah SC’s winless run with a 2-1 win.
Beaches Negril took over the lead in Zone Two after a 2-1 win over last-placed Village United and are on seven points, one more than Clarks Town who kept their home record perfect by edging Sandals Whitehouse 1-0 at Cedric Titus High.
Meanwhile, the game between Salt Marsh United, winners of their first three games, and Montego Bay Boys Club was not played as the St James club left the venue citing the absence of a second police officer.
The Western Confederation Super League’s Disciplinary Committee will meet to decide on the outcome.
After losing their first game, Granville FC have gone on a run of three straight games without conceding a goal.
On Sunday, Davion Thelwell in the fifth minute and Oneil Pringle with a 63rd-minute penalty conversion scored for Granville to extend their winning run as Lucea FC slipped to their third successive loss.
Petersfield FC won back-to-back games and piled more pressure on the defending champions with a double from Romario Whyte in the seventh and 45th minutes.
Leaton Galloway pulled one back for Savannah SC in the 66th minute, but that was not enough as the champions are stuck at the foot of the tables with one point.
Beaches Negril rebounded from their defeat to Sandals Negril with a last-gasp 2-1 win over Village United at LLandilo, with Kemar Dawkins scoring the winner in time added on.
Ryan Gayle gave Beaches Negril the lead in the 40th minute, but Charles Grant pulled the Trelawny club level after 60 minutes with a penalty kick.
Dawkins scored his league-leading fourth goal two minutes into time added as Beaches Negril grabbed all three points.
At Cedric Titus, St Derrick Pryce’s 10th-minute goal was enough to give Clarks Town three points against a dominant Sandals Whitehouse, their second win of the season, both coming at home.
On Saturday, former champions Wadadah FC salvaged a point from their 1-1 draw against Reggae Youths at the UDC field.
Santino Grinnion scored his second goal of the competition to give Reggae Youths the lead in the fourth minute, but Wadadah FC, who had just two players on the bench, grabbed the equaliser in the second half from the penalty spot through Ronaldo McLeish.
