Faulkland upset Granville to book KO semi-final spot
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Faulkland FC continued their march to the semi-finals of the St James Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery and Grill Knockout with an upset 5-4 sudden death penalty kicks win over Western Confederation Super League campaigners Granville FC at Jarrett Park on Wednesday.
Jourdaine Fletcher scored twice for the promoted Senior League team as they came from behind twice to earn a 2-2 regulation and extra time draw with former champions Granville FC and will face their third Super League team, Reggae Youths, in the semi-finals.
In the previous round, Faulkland FC had come from behind again to beat Montego Bay Boys Club 4-2 with Fletcher scoring a hat-trick to lead the way.
Gregory Gordon scored a superb header in the 17th minute to give Granville FC the lead, but Faulkland FC drew level in the 25th minute when Fletcher converted a penalty kick after Peter-Lee Vassell was dragged down in the area.
Ricardo Jarrett exploited a sluggish Faulkland FC defence in the 60th minute to restore Granville FC’s lead, slipping past two defenders to slot home under goalkeeper Jamario Hines.
The celebrations lasted all of three minutes before Fletcher equalised with a shot from just inside the area at the near left post.
After neither team managed to score for the remainder of regulation and extra time, the game went to the inevitable penalties locked 4-4.
