A New Year’s Eve Ball and a bicentennial affair
Mandeville, Manchester – Historical records show that Manchester came into being in December 1814.
Since December 2014 there have been a number of 200th anniversary celebratory activities in the parish and the recently organised New Year’s Eve Ball by CoconutTree Productions — held under the patronage of Mayor of Mandeville Brenda Ramsay — was one such event.
Organiser Bert Jackson and his team planned a feel good affair to welcome 2016 and he believes that mission was accomplished.
“It went very well. People enjoyed themselves very much,” he told the Jamaica Observer Central.
Other bicentennial activities in 2015 included a mass tree planting exercise at the Brooks Park Sports and Recreational Complex in Mandeville and the opening of a museum in north western Manchester.
Manchester’s bicentennial celebrations are expected to continue this year when the capital town of Mandeville marks its 200th year.
