Ding Dong is headlining the YVA nominations list this year with nine nominations in eight of the 28 Youth View Awards categories. He is closely followed by Popcaan and Alkaline, both copping six nominations.

Ding Dong has managed to have nominations in so many categories because he has proven himself this year to be not only a talented dancer, but is also an artiste. He has been nominated for Favourite Dancehall Artiste, Hottest Summer Song (Gas), Favourite Dance Group (Ravers Clavers), Favourite Collab (Gas), Male Fashion Icon, Young Hot & Hype male, and twice under Favourite Dance Move for Gas and Lowe Mi.

Popcaan’s recent success, including hits like Weed Is My Best Friend earned him his share of nominations, while Alkaline’s ATM, and Above Them (ft Mavado and I-Octane) are credited for some of his.

Women such as Spice, Tifa, Miss Kitty, Vanessa Bling, and Ishawna are big on the nominations list.

ZJ Chrome has topped the list for the DJs, with nominations for Favourite Radio DJ, Favourite Party DJ, and Favourite Music Producer.

Our own Quite Viral host Quite Perry has been nominated for Favourite Breakout Celebrity and Favourite Social Media Personality.

Other stars with multiple nominations include Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Konshens, Dexta Daps, Devin Di Dakta, Omi, Aidonia, Beenie Man, ZJ Liquid, Bambino, DJ Nicco, Chronixx, Tarrus Riley and Denyque.

The nominees were announced last Thursday night at the official launch of the 2016 YVAs. The Award show will be held on Saturday, February 20, and boast a special performance by international artiste Pia Mia.
