Titchfield choir reunites
PORT Antonio, Portland — A combined Titchfield Choir — comprising past and present student and teachers of the Titchfield High School — had its first reunion for charity at the Christ Church in Port Antonio, recently.
Part proceeds of the event was earmarked to assist Custos of Portland, Major Lincoln Thaxter’s community outreach programmes.
The reunion brought back some former choir members who reside in countries including Korea, United Kingdom, USA and Canada, their permanent residence.
The choir began with folk songs, including Mawning Neighbour, Mumma Mi Going A Town (done by all females), Bud, Bud, Dry Weather House and Queen of the House (done by present teachers).
Ras Carby’s Country Life, Buju Banton’s Not An Easy Road and If Jah is Standing by My Side by Tony Rebel closed the first section.
The second session started with the current choir doing Warrior Praise decked in camouflaged army apparel. The past choir members returned with I Bow My Knees and The Lord is My Shepherd.
Karmette Bachelor-Erving did a classical rendition of Mercy Said No to loud applause and was followed by Valrie Simpson’s Wind Beneath My Wings, dedicated to Mrs Dorrett Thaxter who started the Titchfield High School Staff and Students Choir while she was a teacher at the institution in October 1993.
Tichfield’s Principal Richard Thompson also lauded Mrs Thaxter who was at the institution while the Custos was school principal.
The choir returned to do Let There Be Praise, followed by Dr Monique Hartley-Brown who shared her experience as the first sixth former to be a part of the choir 20 years ago.
Other items were performed by music teacher Warren Thompson, Daynea Deacon-Jones, and quintet Kamlyn Johnson-Richards, Karmette Bachelor-Erving, Valrie Simpson and Lori Johnson-Burnett.
The custos’s outreach programmes include acquiring and repairing bicycles for police force; youth empowerment projects — police community youth clubs, debating competitions and resuscitation of uniform groups to help reduce the indiscipline; and leadership training sessions.
