JLP will not be ‘Government as usual’, says Holness
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Holness, says that it will not be “government as usual”, if the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) forms the government after the next general election.
“The cost of victory to us is not money, but our genuine commitment to the people of Jamaica who want to see efficient, effective, innovative accountable and progressive thinking management, government and governance,” Holness said in a release, issued following Sunday’s JLP delegates meeting at the Jamaica Conference Centre in downtown Kingston.
“The cost of victory is for us to let go of conventional and orthodox approaches to addressing our problems and embrace new thinking and out-of-the-box ideas,” Holness said.
He said that the JLP does not want to win the election for winning sake, but wants to win to change Jamaica for the better.
“We will change Jamaica by investing in families to make them healthier more knowledgeable and better able to bring up children, pass on values, maintain social order and discipline, save and create wealth,” he said.
“We will support business, by being efficient regulators where regulation is necessary, reliable partners in investments, if required, enablers of innovation and development, and by creating a general environment in which businesses can make profits and create wealth,” he stated.
“We will support and partner with civil society and faith-based groups to provide welfare and care for the vulnerable and those in need of special care and protection. We will play our part as government in partnership with the people to make Jamaica the great and prosperous nation it is destined to be,” Holness added.
