MOVEMENTS – Holywell, Blue Mountains
It’s important to get an education, it’s just or twice as important to have good health and to know one’s self. When we travel, we get to not only meet new people and experience new places but we also get to meet new parts of ourselves we never even knew existed. Hey there TEENS!
The new year has indeed brought us new things. One such new thing is our brand new travel feature Movements. Journey with me as I travel the 14 parishes and share my adventures with you.
Starting in Kingston and St. Andrew, my first landmark was Holywell. Just in case you were wondering, yes it was quite an adventure way up in the cold coffee mountain, Blue Mountain!
???? The journey up along winding roads, past The Gap (a cafe), and JDF’s military base.
The views from Holywell were extremely breathtaking and the recreation park itself is quite the adventure; only though, if you’re up for a great deal of walking. The park is a great spot for a family cook-out/reunion/birthday party/ bonfire, you name it. You get to hang with your loved ones while overlooking the entire city of Kingston, St. Andrew and even St. Catherine.
There is a waterfall, a hiking trail, if of course you’re into that. If you’re not though, I’d still advise you to try that out as well – great experience. There is also a play ground and fancy little gazebos here and there.
For me, the best part of the trip was actually the sightseeing, some of the views really took my breath away. Not to mention the little rest stops en route. There was the JDF Barracks at Newcastle, which was established in 1841, so of course, I had to stop just to get a few shots.
The Gap, which is an eatery and a gift shop, and EITS Cafe were the other stops that were absolutely amazing!
Getting to Blue Mountain is quite easy; especially with your own transportation. It’s just about an hour or less from Papine. Ask Mommy or Daddy to take you, and if they’re reluctant about it, promise to do your chores well for a month and oh, get good grades and I believe that should do it.
Or if you’ve outgrown that stage, plan a summer trip with your friends!
When you do get to go though, ensure to bring gallons of water and proper walking shoes or sneakers, as well as a jacket. I’d also advise you not to wear any makeup. Nature will not be pleased ????.
I did all of that with a small budget of a little under $ 2,000. So you see, you can be adventurous without spending much. Where will my next stop be? Stay tuned!
