17 Cubans rescued off Negril coast
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – The Marine Police are confirming that 17 Cubans were rescued approximately 230 miles west of Negril Point, Westmoreland last Friday and they arrived at Port Bustamante in Kingston on Sunday, January 17.
The Cubans, comprising of five females and 12 males, arrived about 12:45 am, and were visited by the members of the Passport, Immigration and Citizenship Agency, Quarantine Authority at the Ministry of Health as well as members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force Marine Division. The Cuban consulate was also informed as well as the ministry of foreign affairs.
They are currently being housed at a Red Cross location in St Catherine.
