Warmington ‘rude, abrasive, disgusting’ for calling Hanna ‘Jezebel’
Enough is enough! the People’s National Party Women’s Movement (PNPWM) said in a press statement last week.
The party affiliate has called on the parliament to censure the member of parliament for St Catherine South Western, Everald Warmington, in the wake of “yet another of his rude, abrasive, disrespectful and disgusting outbursts in the Parliament”, this time aimed at Minister of Youth and Culture Lisa Hanna.
During a debate on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, Warmington screamed at Minister Hanna that she was a “Jezebel” and “a witch”, the PNP Women’s Movement said.
According to PNPWM President Jennifer Edwards, “Warmington should not be allowed to insult the Parliament, its members, his constituents, journalists, public servants, children and women, and get away with a glib ‘I apologise’ statement usually accompanied with a grin.
“As we encourage, foster and promote women’s empowerment, men like Warmington who are feeling threatened and impotent are manifesting those feelings through…verbal violence. We call on the society to reject this type of behaviour and ask women to ensure that the Parliament is free of men who cannot respect their mothers, sisters, wives and girlfriends,” said Edwards.
“We look forward to the decision of the Jamaica Labour Party to cast him from its ranks. Everald Warmington must be painted out of our political landscape,” the statement declared.
