Saint boys nab Prada and Calvin Klein in Milan again
Jamaica-based Saint International has proven false the age-old maxim ‘lightning never strikes twice in the same spot’ when two of its top male models — Brandon Bailey and Brad Allen — bagged highly coveted spots on the world-famous Prada and Calvin Klein runways in Milan, Italy last Sunday.
This is the second-consecutive season for Saint on both runways, but with a different model in Brad Allen appearing for Calvin Klein, Saint boss Deiwght Peters told the
Jamaica Observer yesterday. Last season the honours went to model Andre Doyley.
Peters, still basking in his description by
American Vogue.com as ‘the man behind Jamaica’s model wave’, added: “That global luxury brands from Prada to Armani, Calvin Klein to Givenchy, Chanel to Ralph Lauren are tapping our models to showcase their latest collections to the characteristically sceptical fashion cognoscenti is indisputable testament to the style potency of the Saint model brand.”
Last June, Bailey and Doyley made their global fashion runway debut as exclusives for fashion mega-brands Prada and Calvin Klein, respectively, during the Spring 2016 Men’s Collections in the Italian fashion capital, according to Peters.
“What was special is the fact that the Calvin Klein exclusive was booked directly by Saint International, a remarkable feat for any model agency in the Caribbean,” suggested Peters, who said he was also instrumental in positioning Bailey for the Prada exclusive via its Milan affiliate Why Not Model Management.
“These are outstanding achievements on any level. That the same agency would have a new model booking Calvin Klein Menswear show for Autumn 2016 (after Spring 2016) was certainly unexpected. These are the dreams any model agent has for their models to walk the best runways in the world as the power of such publicity guarantees a good career,” Peters gushed. “I knew Brad would do well this season, but it was an absolute stunner to have Calvin book yet another of my male models for a slot on the show this season.”
He noted that Doyley would be missing in action as he sits final exams for his physiotherapy degree from the University of the West Indies, but that both Brad and Brandon had been making amazing strides in Milan.
“Aside from Prada and Calvin the boys both strutted for the glitz-loving Phillip Plein. Brad also appeared for Ralph Lauren and Brioni. Brandon took his island-confident stride to the runways of the Adidas and Japanese brand White Mountaineering collaboration (at Pitti Uomo in Florence), and Iceberg.
“In Paris it was Brad’s moment to shine. In the final leg of the European fashion week cycle, which ended on Saturday, the Kingston High past student walked for fashion’s best, including Lemaire, Givenchy, Hermes, Balmain, and took a start-turn as look #1, the opening model for Japan power designer Mihara Yasuhiro.
“Both boys made stunning appearances in London at the start of the Men’s Fashionweek cycle. They walked for top shows such as Coach (Brandon) and Belstaff (Brad). This is the first time any Jamaican model agency has had multiple male models strutting the runways for the world’s top designers in the three European capitals of London, Milan and Paris in one season,” he boasted.
Saint’s impressive list of successful international male models include Tafari Hinds, Colet Buckley, Doren Bailey, Kibwe McGann, Kirk Headley, Marlando Vassell and Mario Miller, among others.
Peters surmised that Saint’s success with the fashion world’s most prestigious brands had now placed him “in the spotlight for the top casting directors, show producers and magazine editors to make direct contact”.
At
Observer press time, Peters said he was expecting a major global fashion publication, which he was not yet ready to name, to arrive from Europe “to work exclusively with more than a dozen Saint International male models”, saying that it would be “yet another historic fashion moment”.
