Rotary honours Shipping giant Stephenson
The Rotary Club of Kingston, in keeping with its observance of January as Vocational Service Month, yesterday saluted Kingston Wharves CEO Grantley Stephenson for his service to the shipping industry in Jamaica and the region.
Stephenson, who was presented with the club’s Vocational Award, joined Kingston Wharves in 2003 as managing director and is responsible for the company’s modernisation and growth strategies.
Over the past 30 years, he has headed various shipping companies, including Seaboard Freight and Shipping Jamaica Limited, and Jamaica Merchant Marine. He has also served as president of the Caribbean Shipping Association.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of the West Indies and is also a graduate of the University of Technology, Jamaica and the University of Plymouth in England.
Stephenson is Dean of the Consular Corps of Jamaica and the Honorary Consul General for the Kingdom of Norway. For his outstanding work in this role, he was conferred with the Jamaican National Award of the Order of Distinction (Commander Class) and the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit, the highest non-national award.
