Gov’t and opposition show interest in JBG business model
Members of the Government and Opposition continue to show an interest in the vertically integrated systems used by the Jamaica Broilers Group to drive its operations to meet international standards.
The most recent visit was made by the Leader of the Opposition, Andrew Holness, Daryl Vaz, MP for Portland Western, and JC Hutchinson, opposition spokesman on agriculture on January 22. The tour included the Group’s St Catherine-based facilities including the Hi-Pro ACE Supercentre and Best Dressed Chicken Hatchery, both at White Marl; the Best Dressed Feed Mill in Freetown; the head office of the Jamaica Broilers Group at McCook’s Pen and the Best Dressed Chicken Processing and Best Dressed Further Processing plants, both at Spring Village.
At the end of the tour Holness described the Jamaica Broilers Group’s operations as a fine example of a Jamaican entity that has not relied on market protection to expand, but has achieved success through capital investment and the creation of jobs for more than 2000 Jamaicans.
“In terms of systems and management, this company is a first-world operation of which Jamaica can be proud. But, what I admire most is that Jamaica Broilers continues to innovate, which is critical to sustainability,” Mr Holness said.
Among the other Government officials who have toured the Jamaica Broilers Group in recent weeks have been Minister of Finance, Peter Phillips and the Minister of Agriculture, Derrick Kellier.
