CANTO 32nd AGM opens today in Haiti
A range of important issues affecting the region’s telecommunications industry will be dealt with at the 32nd Annual General Meeting of the Caribbean Association of National Telecommunications Organizations (CANTO) in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.
The five-day series of events will be co-hosted by Digicel from January 31 to February 4 at the recently opened Marriott Hotel — built under a partnership with the regional communications and entertainment provider, Marriott International and the Clinton Global Initiative. This year’s theme is, ‘Inspiring ICT Innovations: Building an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem through Sustainable Strategic Partnerships’.
CANTO’s seven working committees will meet to look at several issues, including the expansion of broadband access across the region, disaster risk management in the telecoms sector, new and emerging mobile broadband technologies as well as mini expo featuring major suppliers that manufacture and distribute telecommunications products and services.
Chairman of CANTO, Digicel’s Julian Wilkins, notes, “Inspiring ICT innovations will allow us to take full advantage of the rapidly evolving converging technology environment for the benefit of our Caribbean consumers.”
Formalities will begin with the traditional opening ceremony today to be hosted by Digicel Jamaica’s Head of Public Relations, Elon Parkinson.
Besides presentation of CANTO’s annual report, there will be the election of a new Board of Directors.
