Gareth, Geordine shine at JBA Doubles Mania
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Siblings, Gareth and Geordine Henry continued to display their dominance on the national scene when they won the Open Mixed Doubles at the 2015 Jamaica Badminton Association (JBA) Doubles Mania tournament at the Constant Spring Golf Club Racquet Complex last night.
The formidable pair defeated Anthony McNee and Ruth Williams in two sets 21-18 and 21-17 to take the spotlight on a well-supported evening.
Gareth then secured a second title when he teamed up with Garron Palmer to whip McNee and Dennis Coke in straight sets 21-14 and 21-11 in the Open Men’s Doubles.
In the Open Ladies’ Doubles, the pair of Katherine Wynter and Ruth Williams got the better of All Jamaica champions Deborah O’Connor and Christine Leyow-Mayne 14-21, 21-17 and 21-19.
In other results: Shaquille Palmer partnered with Nicardo Reid to defeat Damarley Edwards and Oshane Morgan, 21-19, 21-18 in the B Division Men’s Doubles, while in the ladies’ equivalent Taina Daley and Shezelle McTyson defeated Esther Reynolds and Christina Petri, 21-12, 16-21 and 22-20. In the B Division Mixed Doubles Palmer and Alana Bailey turned back the pair of Taina Daley and Ashane Newland, 21-19 and 21-14.
In the D Division, Teneisha Shim-You and Davina Turner had a 21-14 and 21-14 victory over Aliyah Henry and Abbigayle Willis in the Ladies Doubles. Teneisha Shim-You and Marlon Suckie defeated Steven Stewart and Davina Turner, 21-13, 16-21 and 21-16 in the Mixed Doubles. In the Men’s Doubles, Jerome Henry and Chase Palmer defeated Steven Stewart and Marlon Suckie 22-20, 17-21 and 25-23.
Other winners of the night were:
C Division Men’s Doubles Winner: Maurice McLaren/Nicardo Reid 21-17, 21-14 over Bradley Burnett and Dalton Reid.
C Division Mixed Doubles Winner: Malik Brown/Tahlia Richardon 20-22, 21-15, 21-15 over Dalton Reid and Juleen Gentles.
