Chinese soap manufacturer eyes Trini market
CHINESE laundry detergent company, ADA Manufacturing Limited, is eyeing the export of its locally produced laundry detergents to the Trinidad and Tobago market over the next six months.
It’s the latest move by the soap company after recently investing in a baby product line of shampoo, hair and body wash, moisturising and olive oils, lotion and powder under the ADA brand. The company also introduced scented candles on the market, which are currently being stocked in supermarkets and wholesales island wide.
One of the company’s local competitors, Blue Power, is already targeting Guyana, Barbados, St Vincent and Suriname for exports of its cake soap. Blue Power reckons that their focus on Caribbean markets, as well as their listing on the United States e-commerce platform,
Amazon.com will help to boost sales of their laundry soap.
“Our aim has always been to have our products known in Jamaica and in other countries, and we want to start with the Caribbean,” ADA’s Sales Manager Mark Richards told the Jamaica Observer in an interview last Tuesday. Under the brand, the company currently manufactures the laundry detergents Classic Sud, Nice and Clean, ADA Gold, ADA Ultra-clean powder detergent with softener, ADA Super-clean fragrant softener and ADA Floral Fresh.
Operating in Jamaica for more than six years, ADA Manufacturing has established a new packing plant in Portmore, St Catherine. Before that, it operated inside the Naggo Head Industrial Complex in Portmore.
Currently ADA manufactures laundry detergents, a laundry bar (cake soap), bath soaps, dishwashing liquids, tissue, aluminum foil, baby wipes, table napkins, hand towels, foam cups and plates and facial tissues in addition to the baby product line and candles.
Richards told the Business Observer that the company is also expanding its product line, but was tight-lipped on the details as the company is now “at a sensitive stage in the process”.
“Expansion plans are underway for products but we are not ready to disclose the details as yet,” he stated.
