NADB launches exercise books in primary schools
In a thrust to utilise the game in the uplifting of educational standard, the National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB) launched their Play Exercise Book at Maxfield Primary School last week Wednesday.
Humbert Davis, NADB first vice-president, said that the association’s aim is to build the nation through investing in children.
“Over the years the NADB, while ensuring that the game of domino maintains its dominance as a sport for all, has worked assiduously to use the pull and popularity of domino as a cell site to develop and reinforce positive values, particularly focused on children,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
“To invest in our human infrastructure, we must start at childhood and continue through life by creating, subsidising, and providing training for jobs in child care, early education, health care and other caring industries,” Davis added.
He continued: “The objectives of the programme are surrounded by these three main words: conduct, contract and construct. The individuals involved will get an understanding of these three words from a more practical sense, using domino as the cellular units in achieving this understanding. Once they have a complete practical understanding of these, gathering this information from performing actions involving these verbs, their understanding will reciprocate in their daily behaviours outside of the programme. This will in turn improve their general morals and attitude.”
Denzil Wilks, general manager for Sport Development Foundation (SDF), said that his company is committed to give full support to programme.
“SDF will spend full time to contribute to this work by NADB, as not only they are developing the sport of domino in the country but also developing the educational standard in students. What they are doing (NABD) is good and we at SDF are giving full support,” Wilks said.
The NADB Play Exercise Book is sponsored by SDF and Kirk Distributors Limited.
