DENBIGH High and Holmwood Technical walked away with majority of the spoils at the 2015 Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA) Junior and Senior High School Girls’ Netball Awards at a ceremony at the Terra Nova Hotel in St Andrew on Thursday.

Kelly Scott, who plays centre for Denbigh, and Shanniel Davidson of Holmwood were each awarded the Most Valuable Player (MVP) title for the All-Island Junior and Senior League Championships.

Both schools also captured the MVP awards for the Junior and Senior Leagues, as Denbigh goal-attack Zandria Cohen captured the award for Juniors, while Holmwood centre Annmarie Linton took the Senior crown.

Denay Thomas of Denbigh was Most Accurate Shooter in the Rural Junior League, with 87 per cent accuracy, while Tracey-Ann Francis of Holmwood was Most Accurate Shooter, with 90 per cent accuracy in the Senior equivalent.

Denbigh and Holmwood also captured the Rural Junior and Senior Leagues, respectively. Denbigh beat Knox College, while Holmwood defeated Titchfield High.

Winning Coaches Christine Bartley and Shanice Walker of Denbigh and Karlene Graham-Powell of Holmwood also received plaques and trophies.

Meanwhile, Kelsey Jonas of Gaynstead High received awards for MVP of the Urban Junior League and the Most Accurate Shooter with 87 per cent accuracy.

Ramona Lawrence of Camperdown also collected two awards in the Urban Senior League — MVP and Most Accurate Shooter with an 87 per cent accuracy.

Gaynstead and Camperdown also captured the Urban Junior and Senior Leagues titles, respectively. Gaynstead defeated The Queen’s School which had held the title for the past three years, while Camperdown surprised former many-time champions St Hugh’s to win the Urban Senior League title.

Both Gaynstead and Camperdown lost to Denbigh and Holmwood in the all-Island National Championships. Coaches Dalton Hinds of Gaynstead and Wayne Stewart of Camperdown both received a plaque and a trophy as winning coaches for their respective schools.
