Farmer’s body found in Portland river with head wound
PORTLAND, Jamaica — Peter Cole, a 45-year-old farmer of Cascade district in Spring Hill, Portland, died Friday when he fell into a river in his community.
Reports from the Spring Hill police are that about 8:15 pm, residents called them to the area. Upon their arrival, Cole was found in a river with a wound to his head. The police say he died on the spot.
Noting that the stretch of road where the incident occurred is extremely dark, the Spring Hill police are theorising that Cole was walking along Regale Road when he missed his step and fell over a retaining wall into the river.
According to information received, this is the second such incident to occur in the area.
The police say in November 2013, the body of Alvin Simpson was also found in the same river.
Investigations are ongoing, the police say.
