Fans wear masks in support of racially abused player etc
Once again another week of football has passed and with it are some exciting news. Read on if you want to know what happened between Leicester City and Jamie Vardy, who Manchester City is serious about and which coach is being linked to Manchester United. All that and more in our weekly football round up.
1. There has been speculation that Jamie Vardy would get a new deal with Leicester City and it has now officially been done. Vardy has now signed a new contract with Leicester City to stay until 2019. Vardy had transferred from Fleetwood in 2012 for a £1m. He has noted that he will “…forever be grateful for the investment the club has made … [will] spend every day working to repay it.” Signing Vardy has been proved to be a great call from Leicester City.
2. First it was Manchester United that was being linked frequently to Barcelona forward Neymar Jr but reports are that Manchester City is on the prowl for the Brazilian. It is reported that when Pep Guardiola arrives at Manchester City in the summer he will offer £150m for not only Neymar but for Sergio Busquets as well. Real Madrid under Zinedine Zidane has also shown interest in Neymar Jr after he publicity stated that he likes the way he plays. As unlikely as a sale to La Liga rivals would be, Real Madrid had been showing interest in him for years before he was snatched by FC Barcelona. Neymar’s contract with Barcelona expire in 2018. If these clubs are actually serious the summer transfer window should be a pretty interesting sight.
3. Louis Van Gaal just cannot catch a break with the threat of him being fired omnipresent these days. This week Jose Mourinho was said to be in talks with Manchester United about replacing Van Gaal. When the media spoke with Van Gaal he claimed that he “did not believe” that the story was true. There have been rumours that surfaced right after Mourinho was sacked that spoke about Mourinho’s desire to coach Manchester United. Mourinho has allegedly said that he confident he will be with Manchester United by the end of the season. With Pep to Manchester City, it is not hard to see why Manchester United would be seeking Mourinho.
4. Napoli fans adorned themselves in masks showing the face of Kalidou Koulibaly this Sunday showing their displeasure of what Koulibaly was subjected to earlier this week. On Wednesday, the Senegalese was the subject of racial abuse during Napoli’s midweek match with Lazio. Each and every time he touched the ball there would be an eruption of boos. The crowd became so unruly that the match had to be suspended for three minutes. It was this event that led to Napoli fans putting on a mask of his face to show solidarity with him during their Serie A match today.
5. There has been a surge of footballers being signed to China’s football league. China used the transfer market to their advantage signing people like Ramires from Chelsea. Alex Teixeira, who had been a target for Liverpool, has left them hanging after Jiangsu Suning spent £38.4m for him. Odion Ighalo has also been offered a nearly £300,000 a week contract to move to China’s Super League. He turned them down but not everyone could resist all that money. This is all interesting to say the least.
