Andy Cole hails Wes Morgan on international football career
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former English striker Andy Cole has hailed Jamaican International footballer Wes Morgan on his successes at Barclay’s Premier League Club, Leicester City.
Cole is the third highest goalscorer in Premier League history with 187 goals during a 19-year career, which started in 1988.
The 44-year-old, who represented approximately 12 clubs during his career, pointed out that “it is more difficult for born Jamaican players to come to the premiership” due to the lifestyle changes and change in climate.
But, in Morgan’s case, who is one of many English-born players with Jamaican ties, it is a different scenario.
Both Cole and Morgan were born in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, and both represented Nottingham Forest before transitioning to the top division of English football.
“The boys who are born in England, qualify through parentage, so it is a lot easier. So for someone like Wes who I played with, he has done very well, especially this season for Leicester,” said Cole.
“He (Wes) has spent a long time in Nottingham, so he has the opportunity now to play in the premiership. So, yeah it is fantastic for someone like him to play at the highest level now of the premiership and play for Jamaica as well,” added Cole.
Morgan, 32, has made 170 appearances for Leicester and scored five goals since joining the club in 2012. He is also the captain of the club which currently leads the Premier League standings with 53
points.
