KC’s Campbell earns big as Digicel pays over $1.6m in Grand Prix prizes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Kingston College’s Zico Campbell racked up $100,000 in scholarship to highlight the record-breakers at the recently concluded Digicel Grand Prix Athletics Championship.
The 15-year-old class-two thrower accounted for five of the 83 records broken by student-athletes over the course of the six-meet series which culminated at the GC Foster Classic last Saturday.
With a guarantee of a $20,000 scholarship to athletes who achieved a record performance at any of the meets, a total of just over $1.6 million in scholarships is expected to be paid over to the respective schools that the athletes will be attending in September.
Danielia McLean, Sponsorship Manager at Digicel was pleased about the outstanding performances by the respective athletes.
“The real purpose of the Digicel Grand Prix is to give these students, the schools and the development meets the kind of support and incentive they need to continue elevating their standards,” she told OBSERVER ONLINE.
