YGF Records’ Chronicles of Success
WHEN Tevin Richards started YGF Records three years ago, he wanted to expose budding artistes from his native Ocho Rios on Jamaica’s north coast.
But he also made room for established acts to help put his fledgling label on the map.
He gives a taste of both on the compilation albums, Chronicles of Success Volumes 1 & 2. Both feature the rhythm of the same name.
It features songs like My Time by Capleton and Ffurious, and Neva Happy Fi Mi by Vershon, arguably the hottest name in dancehall.
Richards points to the benefits of getting a Capleton and Vershon on a hot beat.
“They expose our brand to an international level, gaining support from radio stations. With their songs we are likely to hit the charts,” said Richards.
Volume One has songs by Jahvillani (Get Rich or Die Trying), Zamunda (Two Grand) and Chezidek (Real Thing).
The 21-year-old Richards said he takes an equal opportunity approach to his artistes and projects. No song is given preference.
“I scouted each artiste and selected wisely. Growth, experience and talent, I’m pushing the whole project; it’s up to the fans to choose,” he explained.
Richards started YGF Records shortly after leaving Calabar High School. Its first project was the Good Morning ‘riddim’ which had songs by Fantan Mojah, Perfect Giddimani and Smoke.
