Green not counting his chickens before they hatch
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Winston Green of the People’s National Party, the man the Electoral Office of Jamaica has just confirmed as the winner of the St Mary South Eastern seat after an official recount following the general elections on Thursday February 25, is not counting his chickens before they hatch.
In an interview a short while ago with OBSERVER ONLINE, Green said he is prepared to work with any party which forms the next government for the benefit of the people of the constituency.
“I am prepared to work with anyone, any party, if it benefits the people in the constituency.
“This has been quite a learning experience for me, and if the result holds true, I am sure it will make me a better Member of Parliament,” Green said.
Green lost by 137 votes after the preliminary count on Thursday night to the JLP’s Norman Dunn.
Souces close to the process say that one of the boxes that were counted on election day (preliminary count) had Dunn winning when it should have been the other way with Green winning.
If this final result holds, it would mean that the JLP has won 32 seats and the PNP 31. The declared result on election night had the JLP winning 33 seats and the PNP 30.
