Supreme Ventures sponsors Major, Minor Leagues Netball competitions at $4.5 million

Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) has provided a $4.5-million sponsorship for the staging of the 2016 Netball Jamaica Major and Minor League clubs competitions which got underway at the National Indoor Sports Centre on Thursday.

Diahann Guy-Shepherd, sponsorships, promotions and branding manager at Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL), made the announcement.

“Our sponsorship this year is valued at $4.5 million which will assist with the execution of the leagues, and includes hosting of the opening and closing ceremonies, prizes and trophies,” Guy-Shepherd said.

“We know it will be three months of intense rivalry, but we expect that teams will display fair play in their behaviour on and off the court. We will also be awarding scholarships, valued at $500,000, to deserving players and bursaries for coaches,” she added.

The scholarships for tertiary level training to be awarded in the Major League are $130,000 to a member of the winning team; $75,000 to the second-placed team member, and $65,000, to the third-placed team member.

For the Minor League, $110,000 to a member of the winning team; $70,000 to a member of the second-placed team, and $50,000 to a member of the third-placed team.

Guy-Shepherd said coaches are expected to benefit from bursaries towards the pursuit of their netball coaching courses to be administered by the University of Technology (UTech) on behalf of Netball Jamaica.

“The ladies participating in the competitions could be the next Sunshine Girls representing Jamaica,” said Guy-Shepherd, who urged the players to give of their best in every game, and let fair play reign.
