Nevis Sport Minister in Jamaica for Champs
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Minister of Social Development and Sports, Nevis Island Administration, Hazel Brandy-Williams is in Jamaica to experience the 2016 ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championship taking place at the National Stadium.
Brandy-Williams, is currently in the island for a first-hand look at the local sport infrastructure, and how it can benefit her island’s sporting ambitions.
Grange informed the press that during the visit, Brandy-Williams will be seeking to establish a higher level of cooperation between the two islands, including technical assistance in various sports, including track and field and football.
She stated that the visiting minister will also meet with representatives of the Sports Development Foundation (SPF), the staff of the G.C. Foster College, as well as the Caribbean School of Sport Sciences (CSSS) at the University of Technology (UTech).
“We are hopeful that coming out of this visit will be a greater level of cooperation between Jamaica and Nevis, as well as our other CARICOM partners in the Eastern Caribbean, which will not only allow us to help them to develop their sport capacity, but also help us to expand the market for our own Jamaica brand,” Grange said.
Brandy Williams is accompanied by Assistant Secretary in Nevis’ Ministry of Social Development and Sport, Michelle Liburb, and Director of Sports, Jamir Claxton. They will leave Jamaica on Sunday.
Brandy-Williams arrived in Jamaica yesterday, March 16, and was welcomed by Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport (CGES), Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange.
