BOJ warns public about malicious emails
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Bank of Jamaica in another advertisement in the press today reiterated its warning against e-mails informing people of “new transaction guidelines”, which are being circulated as if originating from BOJ.
The issue was first highlighted in the press on Sunday, when BOJ said in its advertisement that it has been informed that people have been receiving e-mails circulated as if originating from them.
“Bank of Jamaica wishes to advise stakeholders in the financial sector and the general public that these e-mails do not originate from the bank, and that BOJ has not disseminated any instructional messages to the public,” the ad read.
They also advised individuals in receipt of such messages against opening or executing any programme contained in them, as they have been advised that the emails have attachments which may contain malicious software.
