KINGSTON, Jamaica — Calabar High school celebrated in style yet another ISSA GraceKennedy Boys’ Athletics Championship on their school ground at devotion this morning.
A car heavily decorated in the green and black colours of the school, with two big speakers on top, welcomed everyone with loud music and the replaying of the final race at Champs, the 4x400m open relay, in which Calabar underlined their superiority with victory.
This morning students were seen entering school with their heads high and a pep in their steps as they gathered in front of a makeshift stage erected by telecommunications sponsors Flow.
Calabar amassed 287.5 points and won their fifth consecutive Champs title and their 26th overall. Main rival Kingston College was again second with 238 points with Jamaica College third on 229.
High fives were the order of the day as the Calabar school population showed five fingers signifying their fifth consecutive victory. Principal Albert Corcho was ecstatic.
“I am happy that we have won not just the Championship, we have won the Peace for Champs trophy and what it means there are good things happening at Calabar. But what is most important is these boys have to get back to classes,” said Corcho.
Meanwhile chairman of the schools board, the Reverend Karl Johnson, declared that the school would be given a holiday one day early to celebrate their victory.
