NetLink helps to make amends
Dear Claudienne,
I need your help in regard to a cash refund due to me from NetLink Communications Co Ltd.
On January 15, 2016, I went to their office and made a purchase of one item. I paid them using my Visa credit card. Later that same day they called and informed me that the money was taken off the credit card in US dollars, instead of Jamaican dollars. The amount was $3,448.00 Jamaican dollars. There was an error by the cashier who billed it as US dollars, and the amount was shown on my Visa statement as $5,144.22 Canadian dollars.
NetLink then asked FirstCaribbean Bank for a refund, and the bank refunded me less Canadian dollars than the amount taken from my credit card. I was refunded $4,869.72 Canadian dollars, instead of the $5,144.22 Canadian dollars owed to me.
They are blaming their bank, instead of admitting that the mistake was made at the point of sale. I am asking you to speak with them so we can get this problem resolved. I have been talking with them for days now and am not making any progress.
HW
Dear HW,
NetLink Communications Company told
Tell Claudienne that they had made several attempts to get FirstCaribbean Bank to refund the additional amount of $274.28 Canadian dollars due to you, but without success.
You forwarded to us an e-mail that Netlink sent to CIBC FCIB on January 21 explaining the sequence of events and urging them to address the matter.
The e-mail from NetLink to CIBC FCIB stated:
“Thanks for the quick response and correction to the mentioned transaction.
The only problem we are having is that the amount of three thousand four hundred and forty-eight (3,448.00 USD) that was refunded to the customer’s credit card was converted to Canadian currency at a lower rate than at the actual rate when the transaction was done in error.
According to customer information when the transaction was done on January 15, 2016 for $3,448.00 US dollars, the equivalent of 5144.00 Canadian dollars was deducted from his card. When the refund was done on January 18, 2016, only 4,869.72 Canadian dollars was transferred to the customer’s card instead of 5,144.00. Our customer is very irate and will not stand the loss of 274.28 Canadian dollars for the error that was made on his card.
Attached is credit card transaction.
The customer is expecting the full refund value of $5,144.00.
Kindly address this matter as it seems the exchange rate was not the same at the time of transaction and when the refund was made.”
Tell Claudienne contacted senior executives at FCIB on March 1. Netlink told us that senior executives of the bank communicated with them on March 2 and settled the matter within a week.
Printed below is your March 22 e-mail to
Tell Claudienne which states:
“I want to show my sincere gratitude to you and the hard work you’ve done on my behalf in getting my funds back from NetLink Communications and the FirstCaribbean Bank.
May you continue the astounding work you are doing to help us (people) without a voice. You certainly make us live a little longer!!!
Again, thank you very, very much.
God Bless!!!”
We are always happy to assist.
