Hear this, Mr Commish

JAMAICA Observer online readers have weighed in on comments made by Police Commisioner Dr Carl Williams in reaction to two double murders in St James on Good Friday. Here’s what they had to say.

Yadda

The number of times this poor commish has been shocked and outraged I wonder when is he going to actually go into shock? KMT.

Tyroneosborne

@Yadda: Police work calls for patience and good intelligence ; you do your thing quietly .

PhilT McNasty

“Up to last week the police were recording fewer murders this year than last year. Then all of a sudden we had these senseless killings, starting about Wednesday”.

Just when you were about to make the grand announcement of the drop in crime because of the skills and hard work of the JCF… eeh, Mr Commish!? BTW, we are still awaiting your brilliant, new and radical plans to solve the crime situation, as promised. Is it still a secret, or did Bunting take the script when he departed?

Howard Jones

@PhilT McNasty: You noisy empty barrels need to make concrete, actionable suggestions to combat violent crimes beyond firing the commissioner . The new Administration must bring additional resources to bear to hunt down and eliminate the lawless elements plaguing our society. However, it will take traditional police work of investigation and evidence gathering as well as finding ways to break down the ‘informer fi dead’ culture practised by the same citizens suffering the most from this scourge. All the investment and growth projections of our country are directly impacted by the crime situation so resources redirected toward this effort will have a multiplier effect if they are successful.

Paul G

@Howard Jones: One question: why do the police always only go after the low-hanging fruit and never the facilitators? When ‘Dudus’ was taken out, did you see the corresponding significant drop in crime? Corruption is too great in our society.

dallo

Do your thing Commish, but please forget the bag of talking, as we’ve seen how many times that has back fired in the recent past.

gg

Why give the criminals so much information on what he is planning? Waste

Chapter1

The quietness of the Bunting blamers is deafening . I was attacked on several occasions on this forum because I correctly stated, more than once, who should be blamed, and Peter Bunting was not one who should be .

All those guys who called the Chapter a comrade and a trough feeder, ha, where is your party’s effort at fighting crime?

The JLP is on record as Mr Fix-It. Let’s go Mr Fix-It , too many people are dying violently in paradise. (I am not on anyone’s voting list.)

Jrbstn

@Chapter1: How long has the JLP been the government? Any new management will tell you that it takes time to come up with new strategies of those of a new management with new officers (personnel) and this applies to government as well. Say, how can any central government policy stop someone in the privacy of his/her residence decides on his conscience to go out and take another human life? You guys seem to have all the answers but not offering yourselves to govern.

Paul G

@Jrbstn: Should have been top of the 10 point plan? If not, were they then happy with the status quo of daily murders and mayhem?

jadon

Comish is too soft on the heartless criminals…

Jangas

Williams’ action is a plea, not a strategy. That action should be left to a priest.

Nichenry88

Bobby Montague, is this business as usual? What are the strategies for getting the murderers and their guns? This is not a warm-bench job. The people elect you and your party to lead, and it cannot be business as usual. There can be no honeymoon period for you and your party, especially when it comes to crimes like murder. Let me give you an idea, Bobby. Government, including your JLP and the PNP seem to be clueless on how to stop the carnage, so hire private security companies to carry out such tasks.

Cloud King

This commissioner is a joker. Bring back Owen Ellington.

countrybumpkin

The prolific capture land activities have honed all things of this nature, you see happening in St James. Too many people of a similar mentality grouped together in one place, no voice of reason can come forth.

Ellydeedo

The commissioner and the country will continue to be in shock as long as they fail to conduct a round-the-clock military operations while several areas outside of that community are blocked off to prevent anyone escaping the net.

There are so many ways to clamp down on criminals, but the correct intelligence tactics have failed, and the authority refuses to take advice.

Phil

The May 2010 ‘lockdown and search’ brought a feeling of normality to Jamaica before the foolish opposition voted it down in Parliament.

I say bring it back and leave it there until the message is finally received by all these idiots. The inconvenience caused to law-abiding people, who will be stopped and searched ,will be necessary but a price we will have to pay for normal near-secure living.

Sartana

St James and Westmoreland turn into the Wild Wild West.

Brigadista

Been telling oonu seh this commissioner might possess some brain but no brawn! Ceremonial commissioner who sits and warms his chair! Don yuh ballistic vest and helmet, Sir Doc!

RunHaden

And this is the tourist capital of Jamaica? Wake up, Jamaicans! If the tourists don’t come, Jamaica a go sink!

JustandBalance

Until the sources of the crime is manageable, crime will continue to grow exponentially in St James. Why is the Commissioner so astonished that the crime rate in MoBay thus far is parallel to last year at the moment, when nothing significant has been done to curtail the criminals? Once the guns are still accessible then these volatile communities are susceptible to irrational flares of violence.

Wesbo

The police need to start thinking like the criminals! That’s the only way to break up the criminal underground networks and find the guns. Helicopters need to be available to help the police track down and capture these very vicious animals.

Wisdom

Until the wider public/citizens get fearless about reporting serious crime in Jamaica, a drastic reduction in corruption within the police force, and confidence in the criminal justice system, which respects all regardless of race and class, we will have more of the same for a very long time to come.

lexylex

Put cameras all over the place, everywhere! Also, put listening devices and get some drones to monitor these communities, the small, inexpensive ones.

Crucial

Stop being shocked and outraged. Stop vowing to do what you can’t do. It’s time you call a spade a spade and demand help from the Government. You need help from the military because your manpower is weak. You need significantly more resources and more modern resources. Not no stupid deportee and foreign countries use an’ lef.

You need more training for your service men and women. You need so much.

So stop playing hero cause every hero I know dead. And the JCF is dying from failure.

dino

They came back and killed the potential witness. People, silence does not make you safe anymore,; get them before they get you. Use the police, as there will be an alleged shoot out, and that may keep you safe.
