‘DJ Bravo’ the Champion
CHAMPION, a song recorded by West Indies cricketer Dwayne ‘DJ’ Bravo, has been doing the rounds on social media.
So far, the Joseph Fernando-directed video of the Vega Entertainment single, has garned close to 4,000,000 views on YouTube.
Released in March, Champion caught the attention of cricket fans worldwide after a video of Bravo, captain Darren Sammy and Chris Gayle were taped celebrating the semi-final win over India last Thursday. They were filmed performing the single as they arrived at their hotel, much to the delight of adoring fans.
The West Indies eventually won both the men and women Twenty20 World Cup titles. The men’s final was on Sunday.
Champion’s lyrics hails West Indian cricketers including Chris Gayle, Brian Lara, Sir Vivian Richards, Malcolm Marshall and Bravo himself as champions. The song also refers to sports personalities from other fields including sprint sensation Usain Bolt, tennis star Serena Williams and dancehall artistes Bounty (Killer) and Beenie Man as champions.
The song has an accompanying dance, which sees fists pushed and pull back close to the chest.
This is the third single that Bravo has released after Go Gyal Go and Chalo Chalo.
Since 2004, the Trinidadian cricketer has played 40 Test matches, he was a key member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 ICC World Twenty20.
