South-central Jamaica high school athletes Shannon Kalawan of Edwin Allen High, Nigel Ellis of St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS) and Junelle Bromfield (STETHS) were among the stars at the recent 45th Carifta Games in Grenada. As has become customary, Jamaica dominated the games, winning 86 medals, including 42 gold. Kalawan broke a 13-year-old record to win the Girls’ Under-20 400 metre hurdles in 56.61 seconds. Ellis won the Boys’ Under-20 100m in 10.16 seconds and Bromfield cruised to the Girls’ Under-20 800m title in 2:06.21 seconds
