KINGSTON, Jamaica — Forty-one of the 152 candidates who contested the February 25 General Election are yet to file their Election Returns of Expenses, the Electoral Office of Jamaica (EOJ) said on Tuesday.
Following the April 6 deadline for candidates who contested the 2016 General Election to file their Election Returns of Expenses, EOJ said it has received submissions from 111 candidates.
Forty-nine of the candidates who filed are from the governing Jamaica Labour Party while 44 are from the People’s National Party and the other 18 include candidates from other parties and independents.
Election Returns of Expenses are outstanding for 19 PNP candidates and 14 JLP candidates.
The EOJ said a summary of the returns for each candidate will be published in the press on Wednesday, April 13. The documents will also be available for inspection on Thursday, April 14 and Friday, April 15 at the Electoral Office of Jamaica at 43 Duke Street.
“In keeping with the law, the names of the candidates who did not meet the statutory deadline will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions for her attention and possible action,” the EOJ said.
