Champions Windward Road take lead in Junior Champs
DEFENDING champions Windward Road have taken the early, lead, based on combined boys and girls’ scores after five finals on day one of the 2016 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS) Junior High Boys’ and Girls’ Athletics Championships at the Stadium East track yesterday.
The championships resume this morning at 9:00 with 21 finals scheduled to be contested.
Windward Road have 52.50 points.
Former many-time champions John Mills are in second position with 47.50 points, followed by Calabar 21, Mico Practising 13, Braeton 13, Cockburn Gardens 11, Constant Spring 6, and Green Park with also six points.
Windward Road and John Mills are joint leaders in the girls’ category with 35 points each, while Windward Road are on top in the boys’ section with 17.50 points, followed by Calabar 14 and John Mills with 12.50 points.
Meanwhile, Michealia Wilson of Windward Road captured the Class One girls’ high jump with a leap of 1.54 metre, ahead of Bryanna Johnson of John Mills with 1.35m and third-placed Sasha-Gay Bell, also of John Mills, with 1.30 metre.
The Class Two boys’ high jump was won by Kevin Smith of Calabar with 1.69 metre, ahead of Anthony Henry of Windward Road 1.58m, and Atiba Clarke of John Mills with 1.50 metre.
Shella Hamber of John Mills was the winner of the Class Three girls’ long jump with 4.32 metres, ahead of Tyiece Clark of Calabar with 4.18m, and Davianne Johnson of Windward Road with 4.10 metres.
Mickel Wilson won the Class Three boys’ long jump with 5.05 metres, ahead of Keyon Francis of Green Park (4.90m) and Tajay Tyrell of Mico Practising (4.84 m).
Kishaunna Smith of Windward Road was the winner of the girls’ shot put Open with a throw of 9.63 metres, ahead of Joeiann McQueen of John Mills 9.25m, and Shanniel Grant of Cockburn Gardens (8.60m).
The finals scheduled today are Class Three girls’ high jump, Class One boys’ long jump, boys’ shot put Open, Class One boys’ high jump, Class Two girls’ long jump, Class Six girls’ 150 metres, Class Five boys’ and girls’ 200m, Class Four boys’ and girls’ 200m, Class Two boys’ and girls’ 200m, Class One boys’ and girls’ 200m, Class One boys’ 800m, Class Two boys’ 800m, and Class Three boys’ 800 metres.
