MOVEMENTS – Reggae Falls, St. Thomas
The main purpose of MOVEMENTS is to highlight some of the best places in Jamaica, the hidden gems, the little havens, tucked away in the rare areas and rear ends of the country, cool stops that you and your friends may go which will afford you a great time; spending little to no cash at all! I have completed my rounds in Kingston and St. Andrew and I hope you have been keeping up.
Read the past four here, here, here and here in case you need a refresher.
This week, I landed in St. Thomas and I felt like a real “dry land tourist”, as I journeyed through the hills to Reggae Falls, St Thomas. The breathtaking cataracts are hidden away in the bushes, a little distance from all the noise of the town. But, before I let you in on all the fun I had at Reggae Falls, I must fill you in on the sights I witnessed on the road trip en route to the serene stop.
Good heavens! I had no idea St. Thomas was so beautiful, so different… but I feel so grateful to have seen what it is and what this parish has to offer. What I found extremely interesting though, was the dryness of everything, as opposed to the common rural area where everything is always so fresh, lush and green (often artificially so). Not, St. Thomas: the burned bushes, the dry leaves, dry bamboos, the bare starched stony hills, were all honestly very fascinating and it gave me the whole “story-book country” sort of vibe.
Reggae Falls is marvellous in all its glory. And oh, did I mention that it is free of cost? Yes, it’s free and it’s hatched at the end of the Hillside community, a rough 15-minute drive from Seaforth town.
One thing I really liked about the whole setting is that, it caters for people who do not swim, so if you fall under that category, you have nothing to worry about. And, if you have no intention to get anything but your feet wet, there is more than enough space to lay a towel, just admire the falls and hol’ a vibe.
Bring lots of food, lots of friends with good energy and great vibes and if you’re lucky you might have a musician friend, like our driver, who made the whole trip a notch better by blessing our ears and the atmosphere with his sweet sounding acoustic guitar.
a lot for us, empty pocket TEENs. Stay tuned to see which parish I’ll visit next.
I would most definitely go back to Reggae Falls, you should visit too, if you haven’t yet… because it is free of cost and that means
