Making an Elegant debut
AFTER three years in the Jamaica Defence Force, Katrick Walker decided to call time on his military career and pursue music full-time as singer Elegant.
That was seven years ago. He has no regrets.
“Sometimes in life we have to make some very risky decisions and this was one of them. They were and still are a lot of critics who wondered why would I choose the latter of the two, but music is where my heart is,” Elegant told
Splash.
His debut album, the 12-song
Call Me Elegant, was released in March by Mind Music Production. It contains the retrospective songLook Back.
“This song is dear to me as it talks about my past and the struggles I have encountered in my life. It’s about from then to now,” said the 29-year-old Elegant, a native of Wakefield, Trelawny.
All Is Clear, Sober, Something Come Over Me andWorld Gone Mad are other tracks from the album, which is co-produced by Kayode Brown and Mica Henry.
“My album represents a snapshot of reality in Jamaica. My music tells the story of the daily trials and tribulations that one encounters in the poor neighbourhoods of Jamaica,” Elegant explained.
Elegant is currently signed to Philadelphia-based record label Island Media.
