Jamalco face Mico ‘B’ in Supreme Ventures Major League Netball

FORMER champions Jamalco will go up against Mico ‘B’ as the 2016 Netball Jamaica/Supreme Ventures Limited (SVL) Major and Minor League competitions continue at the Leila Robinson Courts, beginning at 5:15 pm today.

The Winston Nevers-coached Jamalco, based in Clarendon, are currently one of the best teams in the island, but they will come up against Mico ‘B’, also a very strong aggregation that is coached by Annette Daley and Janet Guy.

Jamalco are hunting their third straight win.

Nevers said despite the injury to his top shooter Marsha Murphy-Dawkins in the Open League, he still expects to win.

“I expect a good and competitive match against Mico ‘B’ as they always play well, and added to this, have some very good and intelligent players in their line-up,” Nevers said.

He will be relying heavily on shooters Elaine Davis and Taneisha Bernard to outscore his opponents, while depending on Shiann Lambert and Justine Morris to produce the attacking plays to get the ball to the shooters.

Meanwhile, Janet Guy said she expects a very competitive encounter, and is hoping that shooters Danielle Masters and Shuana Jones produce the goals to secure victory, with the support of their attacking centre court players.

Guy will also be looking forward to scoring another win of the afternoon against SKIBO, who are scored by Wayne Stewart. This game begins at 6:45 pm. Mico ‘A’ are fancied to beat their opponents with shooters Stephanie Anderson and Taniel Roberts.

The other Major League matches on this afternoon are: Raven vs Molynes United ‘B’; Waulgrovians ‘B’ vs Alpha ‘A’ at 5:15; SPEG ‘A’ vs Cablepro; UTech Knights vs Jetsetters ‘A’ at 6:30; Global United ‘A’ vs Waulgrovians ‘A’.

Matches scheduled today in the Minor League are: Duhaney Park ‘C’ vs Waterhouse; Top Mountain Flames vs Blades United ‘C’, Hagley Park vs Police ‘C’ at 1:00.

At 2:00 pm – Jetsetters ‘B’ vs Rollington Town; Duhaney Park ‘B’ vs Eden Strikers ‘B’. At 3:00 pm – Sports and Games ‘B’ vs Global United ‘B’; Wolmer’s Crusaders vs Fresh Approach ‘B’; Tryall Heights vs Payneland.

Ocho Rios Magics vs Southboro at 4:00 pm. Red Challenge vs Liguanea United at 5:15 pm.

Meanwhile, the opening ceremony for the Sunshine Cereals Intermediate League will be held tomorrow at the Leila Robinson Courts commencing at 1:00 pm to be followed by matches.

Police ‘B’ vs New Kingston Raiders; Westchester ‘A’ vs Alexander Strikers at 2:00 pm; Friendship vs Rose Town; Flying Angels ‘A’ vs Molynes United ‘C’; Blades United ‘B’ vs Jobs Lane United ‘A’ at 3:20 pm.

At 4:40 pm – Leiba Gardens vs Mico ‘C’; EXED Saints vs Sports and Games ‘A’; Boulevard Baptist vs Jobs Lane ‘B’. At 6:00 pm – Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) vs Rivoli United; Kens Wildflower vs Hannah Town; Hampshire vs Flying Angels ‘B’.
