MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE MUNRO COLLEGE OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION
The Munro College Old Boys Association (MCOBA), which I have the honour to lead, is proud to be spearheading the activities to celebrate the 160th anniversary of Munro College – 160 years of excellence as one of the premier educational institutions in Jamaica.
Many of the messages in this publication will make reference to the rich history and traditions of excellence of our institution. To celebrate that history and tradition we have organized a series of events to be held during the course of the year.
One important and interesting feature of these celebrations will be the series of Eight Distinguished Lectures, where 16 illustrious Munronians will come back to speak to the present boys on a variety of topics. The full schedule of these lectures are printed elsewhere in this publication.
We will host a Church Service at Munro on June 26, 2016, at which we will re-dedicate the school as one founded to provide quality education to boys in our society. We will on this occasion unveil a 160th Monument and formally open the Munro College Museum, which of course will take time to be completed.
We will celebrate our sporting history with a sports weekend in September, involving our traditional rival Cornwall College, and latterly, Kingston College, and on another weekend in September we will launch the Inaugural Top Rock 6K Run. As a mark of respect to the community in which the school is located we will host a Health Fair for the community also in September. In September as well, incoming Munronians will, at the start of the new term, have the benefit of being taught for one week by old boys who will come back to give of their experience and learning.
The month of October will see the 5th annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. On this occasion we will induct 16 persons into the Hall of Fame, to add to the 16 who have been inducted over the past four years.
We welcome the presence of Munronians, Hamptonians, and well-wishers at all our activities as we celebrate Munro College, a city set upon a hill which cannot be hid.
