Cinco de Mayo from Chilitos
Cinco de Mayo is the celebration of the unlikely victory of the Mexican army over the French forces in 1862. Often mistaken as Mexico’s Independence Day it is in fact the celebration of victory in the face of seemingly, impossible odds. In this way Jamaicans and Mexicans share a similar strength of spirit and it is in this vein that Chilitos continues to uphold this tradition.
Chilitos began 8 years ago as the brain child of Julio, Nadia and Loraine Carby and is the combination of their Jamaican and Mexican roots. Revamped by new owners and operators Christopher Boxe and Craig Hammond, Chilitos continues to be a proud mix of Mexican flavour and Jamaican flare. With many plans in place, including a move and a Grand Reopening, this Cinco De Mayo will be a commemoration of victories old and new.
